June 1, 2017 – Montréal, Quebec – Environment and Climate Change Canada
In honour of Canadian Environment Week, the Biosphere is announcing today its 2017‑2018 programming, which includes several new exhibitions marking Canada’s 150th anniversary, Montréal’s 375th anniversary, and the 1967 International and Universal Exposition’s 50th anniversary.
Montréal is considered an innovative, dynamic, and culturally rich city, but is it sustainable and resilient? Planet MTL offers an environmental perspective on this vast urban ecosystem.
Naturally Canadian, an outdoor exhibition of giant photographs, features Canada’s natural heritage.
On the 50th anniversary of the 1967 International and Universal Exposition, Echo 67 offers a look back at the event that marked the centennial of Canadian Confederation.
“I invite the public to take part in the festivities for Canada’s 150th anniversary by visiting the Biosphere, which is offering free admission during Canadian Environment Week.”
– The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change
The immersive show Design the Future won 1st prize for a museum production in the Cultural Production category at the 2016 NUMIX awards ceremony, which recognizes excellence in digital media in Quebec.
Interactive games, sensory experiences, scientific animations, and outdoor exhibitions inform visitors each day on current environmental issues.
During the summer (until September 30, 2017), the Biosphere will be open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free for visitors aged 17 or younger if they are accompanied by a parent or another family member.
Admission is also free on July 1st and 2nd as part of the festivities for Canada’s 150th anniversary.
The Biosphere is located in Parc Jean-Drapeau, on Saint Helen’s Island. The park offers visitors picnic areas, play areas, and unique natural spaces.
