Science Horizons Youth Internship Program 2018-2019
Backgrounder
The Science Horizons Youth Internship Program is part of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy. Science Horizons supports green jobs for youth by offering internship opportunities to recent post-secondary graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Science Horizons provides wage subsidies to eligible employers across Canada, including small and medium enterprises, to hire recent college and university graduates for internships in the environmental and clean-technology sectors. Interns gain experience working on environmental projects lasting 6 to 12 months. Up to $15,000 in funding is available to employers for interns they hire.
Program funding is aimed at employers. Both employers and interns participate in the application process, and interns are hired directly by organizations that have received Science Horizons funding.
Last year alone, Science Horizons helped over 1000 young graduates across Canada obtain practical work experience in Canada’s green economy. The Program has received funding in 2018 to support at least 950 internships, and it is open for 2018–2019 applications from employers and interns alike.
There are currently more than 65 young graduates in Alberta, who have obtained funding through Science Horizons.
