On behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, announced support for the Clean Foundation’s Clean Climate Action School. This program teaches students both scientific-based and traditional Mi’kmaq knowledge about climate change.

This funding is supporting students, youth and both non-profit and for-profit organizations to share ideas and help raise awareness about the importance of taking action on climate change right now.”

“Thanks to the generous contributions of the Climate Action Fund, Clean Foundation will be visiting schools across Nova Scotia to present our new workshop—Clean Climate Action School”. This program provides students with the opportunity to understand the often complex topic of climate change through hands-on activities, and encourages students to see themselves as agents of change.

• Clean Foundation from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, will receive up to $118,964 in funding through the Climate Action Fund.

• Clean Foundation helps create a more sustainable future in Atlantic Canada by making homes more energy-efficient, restoring streams and watersheds, engaging youth on the environment, promoting green transportation, mitigating the effects of stormwater, helping communities reduce waste, and contributing to public policy discussions.

• The project will help develop a Clean Climate Action School designed to promote critical thinking, student engagement and the teachings of the Mi’kmaq–one of the first Indigenous inhabitants in the Atlantic provinces of Canada.

• The Clean Climate Action School is designed to teach middle school students about climate action while showcasing various scientific and water-related careers.  It will introduce them to lab and field skills, climate justice, democratic decision making, scientific observation, and new careers focused on climate action.

• The Climate Action Fund supports initiatives that help bring new ideas and innovations to help tackle climate change and encourage climate action.

• The Climate Action Fund supports projects delivered by students, youth, Indigenous peoples and organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises, not-for-profit organizations, and research and educational institutions.

• The Climate Action Fund supports the key objectives of Canada’s climate plan by making investments in climate solutions.
