Tropical Storm Beryl (August 14 to August 19, 1994)

Tropical Storm Beryl’s as a tropical depression on the 14th but was upgraded to a tropical storm by the 15th. Tropical Storm Beryl achieved maximum winds of 93 kilometres per hour (50 knots).

The main threats from Beryl were coastal flooding and heavy rains producing inland flooding. Tropical Storm dumped heavy rain on southern Georgia and Northern Florida. Beryl had no direct impact on Canada.

Hurricane Chris (August 16 to August 23, 1994)

Chris began as a tropical depression on August 16, 1994. By August 17, Chris was upgraded to a tropical storm and by August 18 it had reached hurricane strength. Chris was a fast moving system. However, it attained hurricane strength well out in the Atlantic, so Hurricane Chris was no threat to land. Chris achieved a maximum wind speed of 130 kilometres per hour (70 knots) and was a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

Chris remained at sea while in the Canadian Hurricane Centre Response Zone and had no direct impact on Canada.
