Study Design and Site Selection

This section is important for the user to know if the model is relevant for their test site.

  1. Model Purpose
Include purpose for building the model and primary use of model and identify any disturbance that this model should NOT be used for
  2. Spatial and Temporal Scope
Include a description of the geographical coverage and a map. Tables may be helpful.
Also include the relevant sampling season and the date range of the model data.
  3. Site Selection
Include the stratification design and reference site selection methods
Include a brief description of the different agencies/CABIN studies involved if applicable

Reference Data And Final Model

This section is important for the user to interpret the CABIN assessment results

  1. Biological description - general overview of the reference database but particularly a summary of the model groups
  2. Habitat Description - general overview of the reference database but particularly a summary of the model groups
  3. Model Performance - classification tables, cross validation table, Type 1 and Type 2 error rates or other summary of accuracy and sensitivity analysis

Other relevant literature

This should make reference to any technical reports or articles that are relevant to the data or the methods applied in this model.

Appendix: Data Collection, Analysis And Quality Assurance

This section is important for the user to evaluate the data consistency and comparability of the reference data as well as their own data. Describe these for each of the CABIN studies involved as they may be different for each study.

  1. Field Collection - can be provided in tabular format and should include any quality assurance or quality control evaluation
    1. CABIN Study Name
    2. Agencies involved
    3. Date range
    4. Sampling season
    5. Number reference samples
    6. Certified samplers (Yes or No)
    7. Certified team leader (Yes or No)
    8. 400 um kicknet (Yes or No)
    9. Other sampling device
    10. Preservative used
  2. Macroinvertebrate Identification - can be provided in tabular format and should include any quality assurance (QA) or quality control evaluation
    1. CABIN Study Name
    2. Taxonomist
    3. Marchant Box used (Yes or No)
    4. Other subsampling device
    5. Subsample count
    6. 10% of reference samples sent to National Lab for QA
    7. Reference Collection maintained
  3. Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyses- can be provided in tabular format and should include any quality assurance or quality control evaluation. Include who did the analyses, how the watersheds were delineated and a description of the data layer sources, scale/resolution and how data were derived. This information is required if users need to generate data for their test sites.
  4. Laboratory Analyses - can be provided in tabular format and should include any quality assurance or quality control evaluation. Indicate who did the analyses and if the laboratory are Canadian Association for Environmental. Analytical Laboratories (CAEAL) certification. This information is needed if users will be comparing analytical results from water or sediment samples.
  5. Statistical Analyses - can be provided in tabular format and should include any quality assurance or quality control evaluation. Indicated which programs were used for various analyses. This information is needed if users want to reproduce the results. This section should also include the date the Science Team reviewed the model and if any recommendations were applied.
