Pollution prevention provisions of the Fisheries Act
The Government of Canada is responsible for the conservation and protection of Canada's sea coast and inland fisheries. Fisheries and Oceans Canada has primary responsibility for administration of the Fisheries Act, which includes responsibility for administration and enforcement of the provisions dealing with physical alteration of fish habitat. Environment and Climate Change Canada has been assigned responsibility for administration and enforcement of the Fisheries Act pollution prevention provisions dealing with the deposit of deleterious substances (i.e. oil) into water frequented by fish.
