Inuit Guardians

English

Funding for Inuit Guardians initiatives supports Inuit communities to exercise their rights and responsibilities to the lands, waters, and ice of their traditional territories. It does this through on-the-ground, community-based stewardship initiatives.

Governance

The Inuit Guardians Committee (IGC) governs the Inuit portion of Indigenous Guardians funding. The Committee is co-chaired by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK). It is composed of representatives from the four (4) Inuit regions:

  • Inuvialuit Settlement Region;
  • Nunavut;
  • Nunavik; and
  • Nunatsiavut.

This committee is responsible for setting:

  • funding priorities;
  • assessment criteria;
  • application and selection processes; and
  • evaluation methods, measurement, and timelines.

Application process

Applications for the Inuit portion of Indigenous Guardians and Nature-Smart Climate Solutions funding are received through a directed call for proposals made to each of the four Inuit land claims regions (Inuvialuit Settlement Region, Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut).

The Secretariat will share additional information as it becomes available. We invite you to consult this webpage regularly for more updates.
