Funding for Métis Guardians initiatives supports Métis peoples to exercise their rights and responsibilities to the lands, waters, and ice of their traditional territories through on-the-ground, community-based stewardship initiatives.

Assessment criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following assessment criteria:

Economic opportunities and training
Direct or indirect links to the creation of economic opportunities for Métis including through jobs and training.
Conservation of biodiversity
Focus on the protection and conservation of wildlife and habitat.
Métis engagement in the protection of traditional territories
Prioritizes stewardship of Métis traditional territories.
Cultural revitalization and management
Focuses on the preservation of Métis culture.
Community capacity building and engagement
Includes community engagement in the development and management of the initiative.
