Métis Guardians
Funding for Métis Guardians initiatives supports Métis Peoples to exercise their rights and responsibilities to the lands, waters, and ice of their traditional territories. It does this through on-the-ground, community-based stewardship initiatives.
Governance
The Métis portion of Indigenous Guardians funding is governed through bilateral engagement with Métis partners, including:
- the Métis National Council (MNC) and its 4 Governing Members: Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA), Métis Nation – Saskatchewan (MN-S), Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), and Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC)
- the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF)
- the Métis Settlements General Council (MSGC)
- the Northwest Territory Métis Nation (NWTMN)
Environment and Climate Change Canada works bilaterally with Métis partners to set:
- funding priorities;
- assessment criteria;
- application and selection processes; and
- program evaluation methods, measurement, and timelines.
Application process
Applications for the Métis portion of Indigenous Guardians and Nature-Smart Climate Solutions funding are received through a directed call for proposals made to each of the current Métis partners identified above.
The Secretariat will share additional information as it becomes available. We invite you to consult this webpage regularly for more updates.
