A summary of comments and responses is provided below, organized by topic:

Summary of public comments received on the Draft Screening Assessment for Chloral Hydrate
Topic Summarized comment Summarized response
Uses Information was provided by a stakeholder regarding their use activities for chloral hydrate. Information provided by the stakeholder supports the information already considered in the screening assessment.
Overarching comment One stakeholder expressed that the screening assessment is a fair and reasonable representation of the potential conditions that exist in Canada for chloral hydrate. Noted.
Risk characterization To improve transparency in the screening assessment, we suggest presenting a summary of the analysis and calculations used in the Ecological Risk Classification (ERC) approach, and in the characterization of ecological risk. The ERC is based on available empirical scientific information and data, results of Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR), structural profiling, mass balance and bioaccumulation models. The approach is explained in greater detail in the ERC Science Approach Document. Specific information and supporting spreadsheets containing data points applied in the classification of hazard and exposure potential for each compound are available upon request here.
