Federal contaminated sites partners

The Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan (FCSAP) is a horizontal program currently involving 16 federal departments, agencies and consolidated Crown corporations. Those responsible for federal contaminated sites, known as custodians, work closely with consultants, contractors and trades people in the remediation and risk management of contaminated sites. FCSAP is administered through a dedicated Secretariat at Environment and Climate Change Canada, with support and policy guidance from the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.

There are four expert support departments. Environment and Climate Change Canada, Health Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada review project documentation, including classifications, to ensure that the risks posed by the sites to human health and the environment have been adequately considered in the project proposals. This, in turn, ensures that FCSAP funding is directed to the sites of highest priority. Public Services and Procurement Canada provides expert support to FCSAP through the development of project management and procurement tools, the dissemination of information on innovative technologies and best practices, and acting as liaison to industry.
