Toxic substances list: fuel containing toxic substances
The concern about contaminated fuel stems from toxic substances that are present in the fuel, and not from the fuel itself. Potential contaminants include chlorinated hydrocarbons, including PCBs; and heavy metals. Fuels are used to produce energy. These fuels may be released into the environment through spills, evaporative emissions, or as a result of incomplete combustion.
