Prohibition of the Manufacture and Importation of Wheel Weights Containing Lead Regulations
The Regulations will put into effect a general prohibition on the manufacture and import of wheel weights containing more than 0.1% by weight of lead in Canada.
After publication of the final Regulations, there will a transition period of 12 months before the regulations come into force on February 3, 2024.
The Regulations
The proposed regulations Prohibiting the Manufacture and Import of Wheel Weights Containing Lead in Canada were published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on July 3, 2021. These proposed regulations considered comments received on the 2014 and 2017 consultation documents. They were open for a 70-day public comment period, which ended on September 11, 2021. The comments received were considered in developing the final regulations published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on February 15, 2023.
