Existing Protection or Other Status Designations
Plagiobothrys figuratus ssp. figuratus is not considered to be at risk globally (global heritage status rank: G4T4). In Oregon, where it is known from a number of locations, it has been assigned a state ranking of S4. In Washington and Alaska it is designated SNR (unranked), and as SNA (introduced and thus not a target for conservation) in Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, and North Carolina. It has a U.S. national heritage rank of N4 (NatureServe 2005).
In British Columbia, fragrant popcornflower is provincially ranked as S1 (critically imperilled); it is also recognized nationally as critically imperiled (N1) (NatureServe 2005). The species is not currently protected by law in Canada, although it is a potential candidate for listing under the British Columbia Wildlife Amendment Act (2004).
