Progress Report on the Lake Winnipeg Basin Initiative 2012 to 2013 and 2013 to 2014: acknowledgements

Acknowledgements

Environment Canada’s work under the Lake Winnipeg Basin Initiative is conducted in cooperation and partnership with other federal agencies, the Manitoba government and other non-government and academic partners across the watershed, and the scientific community throughout Canada.

In particular, we would like to acknowledge the following agencies for providing their expert technical review of Lake Winnipeg Basin Stewardship Fund proposals. The agencies include Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada; Fisheries and Oceans Canada; Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship; Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development; Saskatchewan Agriculture; Saskatchewan Watershed Authority; and Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development.

Environment Canada would also like to acknowledge the following members of the Public Advisory Committee for their contributions in support of the Lake Winnipeg Basin Stewardship Fund. The Lake Winnipeg Basin Stewardship Fund Public Advisory Committee members include:

• Allan Kristofferson, Managing Director of the Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium;
• Kim Poppel, Executive Director, Brandon Seniors for Seniors Co-op Inc.;
• Richard C. Rounds, Richard Rounds & Associates, retired Professor and Chair, Department of Rural Development, Brandon University;
• Sherry Helwer, Vice President, Shur-Gro & Munro Farm Services Ltd.; and
• Glen Cummings, retired grain and livestock farmer, former Deputy Premier of Manitoba, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister responsible for Public Insurance.

Environment Canada would like to make special mention of the valuable contribution made by David Tomasson to the Public Advisory Committee. Mr. Tomasson, a Manitoba Interlake fisher with past involvement in the Hecla Village Harbour Authority and the Freshwater Authorities Advisory Council, was first appointed to the Public Advisory Committee for a four-year term in 2009 and then reappointed for a second four-year term starting in February 2013. Sadly, Mr. Tomasson passed away on February 14, 2014. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Finally, we would also like to acknowledge the work of all the organizations that have participated in or provided funding and in-kind support for Lake Winnipeg Basin Stewardship Fund projects. A full list of projects can be found in the appendices of this report.
