Updates for employees on COVID-19

In order to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19, everyone has a role to play. It takes more than governments and action from the health sector to protect the health and safety of Canadians. Each of us can help our country be prepared in the event of an emergency by understanding 

Health Canada has issued an Occupational Health Advisory on COVID-19 for employees of the Government of Canada.

Your organization’s Occupational Health and Safety team can provide you with credible information regarding any health risks in the workplace.

Telework

Managers are to consider telework for all employees, at all work sites, and identify an approach that is flexible while ensuring continued critical government operations and services to Canadians.

Federal organizations must identify and determine how to manage through exceptional situations that do not lend themselves to telework such as:

  • critical services requiring on-site presence
  • security limitations
  • other operational imperatives where there are no alternatives

It is essential that Government of Canada employees abide by instructions from local health authorities.

Advisories and messages for employees

Deputy Heads are accountable for the operations of their department. The following guidance may be subject to modification to ensure that critical services are delivered (for example, certain jobs may not be amenable to telework).
