Horizontal Red Tape Reviews
Building on the momentum of the Red Tape Review, the Red Tape Reduction Office is launching five horizontal red tape reviews to examine key themes and challenges. These reviews will focus on system-wide opportunities to simplify regulation and reduce costs for Canadians and businesses.
The Red Tape Reduction Office is seeking input on these reviews. If you submitted input during the Red Tape Review or earlier TBS regulatory consultations, that input will be included in the reviews and does not need to be resubmitted.
Themes
Each horizontal red tape review will have a theme:
1. Supporting regulatory efficiency for project reviews: This review will explore ways to reduce red tape and improve the regulatory system to enable more efficient reviews of major projects; this will support efforts being led by the Major Project’s Office.
2. Getting products to market faster: This review will identify opportunities to reduce the time, duplication or complexity of regulatory pathways that delay new or innovative products getting to market.
3. Reducing barriers to business productivity: This review will focus on regulatory challenges and red tape that hinder productivity and solutions to address those challenges, such as lighter reporting, data collection, or other administrative processes and requirements.
4. Supporting international trade and greater efficiency at the border: This review will examine opportunities to accelerate the identification of regulatory irritants or inefficiencies that impact the border.
5. Enhancing regulatory service delivery: This review will examine efforts to deliver transparent, efficient and predictable regulatory service and improve the experience for parties navigating the regulatory system.
We want to hear from you
Between , and , we will be engaging with stakeholders and regulated entities to explore practical ways to reduce red tape in each of the five themes. The goal is to continually improve Canada’s regulatory system so that it is streamlined and transparent; supports economic growth and innovation; and continues to protect the health, safety and security of Canadians and the environment.
