Consultation on the Youth Mental Health Fund: Closed consultation
From: Health Canada
Current status: Closed
This consultation ran from June 24, 2024 to July 31, 2024.
The Government of Canada is working to implement a new fund to make it easier for youth in Canada to get the mental health care they need. The fund aims to break down barriers that stop youth from asking for help or receiving care. Health Canada consulted with people 16 years of age and older to gather feedback on youth mental health and help guide the focus of the new Youth Mental Health Fund.
Who was the focus of this consultation?
We invited people 16 years of age and older with lived experience and those with an interest in youth mental health to complete an online questionnaire.
Key consultation topics
The Youth Mental Health Fund will:
- help community health organizations provide more care for young people in Canada, and better equip these organizations to refer youth to other mental health services they may need
- give future generations the access they need for mental health supports, ensuring a healthy start to adulthood to help them reach their full potential
We sought feedback related to the mental health needs of youth to help inform the types of activities that could be funded through the Youth Mental Health Fund to help us achieve these objectives.
Ongoing stakeholder engagement
In addition to collecting feedback through the online questionnaire, we will continue to engage with youth, partners, and stakeholders via roundtables and virtual meetings to ensure that we hear from many voices across the country interested in improving youth mental health.
Further engagement will inform the development and implementation of the Youth Mental Health Fund.
