Notice of application received - maximum residue limit for benzovindiflupyr for import purposes

Health Canada is reviewing an application under section 10 of the Pest Control Products Act from Syngenta Canada Inc. requesting to specify the maximum residue limit (MRL) for the pesticide benzovindiflupyr on bananas imported into Canada.

This application is related to how benzovindiflupyr is used in another country on bananas. Pesticide use on foods grown in Canada would not change as a result of this application. Therefore, exposure to workers in Canada (growers) and the environment will not change.

Next Steps

Once Health Canada scientists have reviewed the scientific information and confirmed that the health risk from eating imported food treated with benzovindiflupyr meets Health Canada's requirements for protection of human health, the public will be consulted on the proposed MRL.

A consultation notice will be posted on the Consultations page, inviting written comments on the proposed MRL decision within 75 calendar days. Health Canada will consider any comments received during the consultation before making a final science-based decision about the proposed MRL.
