Health Canada is reviewing an application under section 10 of the Pest Control Products Act from Bayer CropScience Inc. requesting to specify the maximum residue limit (MRL) for the pesticide spiromesifen on crop subgroup 10A : Oranges (Revised) imported into Canada.

This application is related to how spiromesifen is used in another country on crop subgroup 10A : Oranges (Revised). Pesticide use on foods grown in Canada would not change as a result of this application. Therefore, exposure to workers in Canada (growers) and the environment will not change.

To find more information about this application, you may refer to the Pesticide Product Information Database and search on the application number: 2025-5042.

Next Steps

Once Health Canada scientists have reviewed the scientific information and confirmed that the health risk from eating imported food treated with spiromesifen meets Health Canada’s requirements for protection of human health, the public will be consulted on the proposed MRL.

A consultation notice will be posted on the Consultations page, inviting written comments on the proposed MRL decision within 75 calendar days. Health Canada will consider any comments received during the consultation before making a final science-based decision about the proposed MRL.
