Report an adverse reaction to a natural health product: industry
Canada's Food and Drugs Act and Regulations set out specific reporting requirements and timelines for industry requiring mandatory reports. These require regulated parties to report adverse reactions to natural health products.
What natural health products are included
Natural health products are often made from plants, but can also be made from animals, micro-organisms and marine sources.
Natural health products, often called "complementary" or "alternative" medicines, include:
- probiotics
- herbal remedies
- vitamins and minerals
- homeopathic medicines
- traditional medicines like Chinese and Ayurvedic (East Indian) medicines
- other products like amino acids and essential fatty acids
All authorized natural health products have a:
- Natural Product Number (NPN) or
- Homeopathic Medicine Number (DIN-HM)
