All pesticides used in Canada must be registered under the Pest Control Products Act . Pesticides are re-evaluated to ensure that they continue to meet health and environmental requirements. Re-evaluation may result in the revocation of a product or product uses. Health Canada may also request changes to a product's label, including mitigation measures.
Fosetyl-aluminium is a fungicide used on a wide variety of agricultural crops, as well as ornamental plants and turf. The highlights of the re-evaluation decision for the active ingredient fosetyl-aluminium, published on June 14, 2019, are summarized below.

Cancelled uses
Stop foliar application on ornamental plants grown in greenhouses for cut flowers.
Other risk reduction measures
- Prohibited use on residential lawns, vegetable gardens, playgrounds, cemeteries and schoolyards
- Addition to the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Increase minimum spray volumes
- Restriction of the amount of product handled per day
- Updated restricted-entry intervals (REIs)
- Updated maximum number of applications per season and to the intervals between treatments
- Restriction on soil drench application to certain crops
- Added statements to prevent spray drift and reduce risks for beneficial insects, small wildlife and aquatic organisms
Users must follow the instructions on the updated labels.
Using a pesticide contrary with the label directions is a violation of the Pest Control Products Act.
