All pesticides used in Canada must be registered under the Pest Control Products Act. Pesticides are re-evaluated to ensure that they continue to meet health and environmental requirements. Re-evaluation may result in the revocation of a product or product uses. Health Canada may also request changes to a product's label, including risk mitigation measures, use sites and application methods.
Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate insecticide used in agricultural and ornamental production, forestry and mosquito control. The re-evaluation of chlorpyrifos has proceeded in several phases since 2000. The update of the final re-evaluation decision was published on December 21, 2021.
All pesticides containing chlorpyrifos are cancelled.
As of December 10, 2022:
The sale of chlorpyrifos pesticides is prohibited.
The use of the CITADEL480 EC (Registration No. 27479) is prohibited.
As of December 10, 2023:
Any use of chlorpyrifos pesticides is prohibited.
