ViroNet
Norovirus (NoV) is the leading cause of infectious gastrointestinal disease in Canada and around the world. ViroNet Canada - NoV has been established at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg for the identification and comparison of NoV outbreak strains. This database can serve as a repository of strain sequence information to provide evidence to link point source NoV outbreaks as well as to monitor strain diversity and evolution. Combined with reference centres in Winnipeg and Ottawa, this system provides a mechanism to understand and reduce the impact of NoV outbreaks in Canada.
