Exercise 3: Situation Scenario Workshop: Documenting an Object

Take the catalogue file card that you previously filled out (Exercise 2). Go over it and make changes to the information you recorded (as needed), according to the definitions, examples and cataloguing and information entry rules for the information fields found in the Artefacts Canada Humanities Data Dictionary.

If this has not already been done, fill out the following information fields (if the information is known) on the cataloguing form provided:

  • Discipline
  • Category
  • Sub-category
  • Object name
  • Quantity
  • End Date; Date of Object, To
  • Period
  • Size and Dimensions (using the appropriate fields)
  • Material
  • Technique
  • Description
  • Accession number

Next, search for similar objects in the Artefacts Canada database and compare the descriptive information on the objects.
