Construction and renovation of multiple sports facilities in the Chaudière-Appalaches region thanks to funding from the governments of Canada and Quebec
News Release
Beaumont, Quebec, May 25, 2017—The governments of Canada and Quebec recognize the importance of having good recreational infrastructure that encourages people to adopt healthy lifestyles, and contributes to making communities vibrant and inclusive places to live. Thanks to joint government funding, three new sports facilities will be built and five will be renovated in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, which will enhance residents’ quality while contributing to the growth of sporting activities and enduring community prosperity.
Marc Miller, Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Norbert Morin, Member of the National Assembly for Côte-du-Sud and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, today announced that the governments of Canada and Quebec will each invest more than $8.8 million in eight projects to build and renovate sports facilities in the region. This financial support comes from the New Building Canada Fund, Small Communities Fund–Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component. The cities and municipalities of the region will also invest more than $8.8 million, bringing the total government and municipal investment to almost $26.5 million.
In the Municipality of Beaumont, a recreation pavilion will be built at the Vincennes Recreation and Tourist Park. Each government will invest more than $118,000. The Municipality will also invest more than $118,000 for a total government and municipal investment of more than $350,000. The first floor of the new building will provide shelter for skaters in the winter and a facility for playground attendants in the summer. On the second floor, a multipurpose room will be used for cultural and sporting activities.
The other projects in the region include Irénée-Thibault Park development in Saint-Damien-de-Buckland, a new sports centre in Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, a new arena in Beauceville, the replacement of the refrigeration system and upgrades to the ventilation system at Sainte-Claire’s municipal arena, and the replacement of the refrigeration system at the Saint-Henri arena. In Quebec, the Fund is administered by the Quebec Department of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy. The goal of this program is to provide financial support to Canadian municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents to develop infrastructure that can enhance their cultural, sports, recreational, and tourism assets or safeguard public assets.
