IAD new service standard for immigration appeals

News release

Starting April 1, 2019, the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) is implementing a new service standard of 12 months from the date the appeal is filed to the date the decision is mailed to the appellant.

The IAD expects this standard to be met in 80% of cases. This target takes into account longer wait times for complex cases and appeals delayed as a result of exceptional circumstances.

The new service standard for immigration appeals will apply to appeals filed on or after April 1, 2019.  In adopting this new service standard, the IAD is not affecting the timeliness of processing pre-April 2019 appeals, and expects that all such appeals will be finalized by early 2020.
