- The Prairies

March 16, 2023
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
30+ people in attendance
Stakeholders from the prairie provinces were invited to Saskatoon for the in-person session as part of the engagement on “An Immigration System for Canada’s Future”.
Among those in attendance were businesses, professional associations, settlement service providers, community groups, francophone associations, and academics. Many stakeholders cited multiple immigration pathways and settlement supports as strengths within the current system.
Stakeholders discussed, among other topics, the importance of deepening collaboration between governments and organizations within the immigration continuum, the connection between labour market needs and international students, and the need to grow francophone and rural communities.
They advised on the need for the immigration system to be proactive rather than reactive.
