Submitting a media request
Media requests can be sent to IRCC Media Relations at media@cic.gc.ca.
The inbox is monitored during regular business hours, from Monday to Friday.
When submitting a request, please include:
- the subject of your inquiry and specific questions for IRCC
- your media organization or intended outlet of publication
- your deadline, including the date and time (specify if it falls outside ET)
Who can submit a media request
IRCC receives a high volume of requests. To ensure we can provide timely, accurate and consistent responses, media relations services are available to:
- professional and independent journalists who produce original news content on an ongoing basis and are not primarily engaged in promoting immigration-related business interests
- students enrolled in a full-time journalism program
Case-specific inquiries
Due to privacy legislation, IRCC generally requires written consent before sharing information about an individual case. However, it’s important to note that IRCC can’t provide information about individuals who have applied for refugee protection in Canada, even with written consent.
Journalists requesting case-specific information must submit a completed consent to disclosure of personal information to the media form (PDF, 102 KB), signed by the individual(s) concerned. The completed form should be included as an attachment with the media inquiry.
Data requests
IRCC is committed to providing transparent and reliable statistics on its programs and services. A range of data and information is available on the following pages:
- Key numbers on Canadian immigration – Canada.ca
- Understanding student and temporary worker numbers in Canada
- Asylum statistics, trends and data
- Understanding IRCC’s application inventories
- Open Government Portal
For additional data requests, journalists may contact IRCC Media Relations. Please note that these requests can take up to 10 business days.
