PR (R295) – Family Class or Spouse and Common-Law Partner in Canada Class

Sponsorship fee [R304(1)]:

  • is always $75;
  • is paid per application;
  • is lower for the principal applicant only because of the sponsorship fee;
  • is not refunded if the sponsor is found ineligible to sponsor.

Right of Permanent Residence Fee

Description Amount

All applicants in any immigration class must pay the RPRF, except for the following:

  • protected persons (including Convention refugees) who apply for permanent residence in any class and the family members included in their application;
  • members of the protected temporary resident class and the family members included in their application;
  • dependent children regardless of age, of a sponsor or principal applicant;
  • dependent children of dependent children of a sponsor or principal applicant;
  • a child to be adopted, an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild.

Note: A dependent child, as defined in R2, includes the adopted child of the parent. Therefore, the child would be exempt from the RPRF. (R303)
H & C principal applicants, regardless of age, must pay RPRF except for:

  • protected persons and their family members;
  • a principal applicant who is a "dependent child" of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
