CIMM – Atlantic Immigration Program – November 25, 2024
Key Facts and Figures
- As part of the Levels Plan to reduce permanent resident admissions, the target for the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) will decrease from 6,500 in 2024 to 5,000 in 2025.
- While all of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s lines of business have seen significant decreases from 2024, the proportion of the Plan dedicated to the economic class has grown, in line with stakeholder priorities shared through the Levels consultation process.
Key Messages
- We will continue to work collaboratively with Atlantic provinces to achieve our shared economic immigration objectives, including distributing the economic benefits of immigration to Atlantic Canada.
Supplementary Information
- The decrease in AIP Levels space will slow the intake of AIP candidates to Canada and will impact the allocations that can be distributed to provinces in 2025.
- Due to existing inventories of applications, the decrease in Levels space afforded to the AIP will lead to an increase in processing times.
- The full extent of processing times and impact on clients will be determined by the number of allocations distributed to Atlantic provinces in 2025, as every additional allocation is anticipated to grow the AIP processing inventory.
