- In 2024, we introduced special measures to facilitate temporary residence for up to 5,000 extended family members in Gaza of Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
- Once in Canada, eligible clients may apply for a fee-exempt study or open work permit. They can also access settlement services, one-time transitional financial assistance, and three months of temporary coverage under the Interim Federal Health Program.
- But leaving Gaza remains extremely difficult and often impossible. This is a critical obstacle when processing applications from people currently in Gaza.
- As of February 28, 2026, approximately 1,360 Palestinians have been approved to come to Canada. Approximately 985 people have arrived through the special measures for extended family.
- Each country sets its own entry and exit requirements, and we do not ultimately decide who can leave Gaza. Anyone looking to come to Canada must meet our admissibility and eligibility requirements, including biometrics and security screening.
Palestinian students
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is working with partners to expedite the processing of applications for study permits for 37 Gazan students and their family members who are currently outside of Gaza.

- The majority of those who have gone through the interview process will be contacted before the end of May with either a final decision or with one last opportunity to address any outstanding concerns prior to a final decision.
