We introduced temporary immigration measures to provide safety and stability while the war continues, while recognizing that many will eventually return home when it's safe to do so.
These measures also allow eligible Ukrainians already in Canada to continue working and contributing to the economy.
Canada–Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel
Through the Canada–Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET), we've welcomed over 300,000 Ukrainians and their family members.
While emergency measures have ended, Ukrainians with work permits issued under CUAET now have until March 31, 2027, to apply for an extension of up to three years.
Family Reunification Pathway
In October 2023, we launched a permanent residence pathway for Ukrainians with family members in Canada.
More than 25,000 people applied and over 3,200 applicants have been approved. Processing continues for those who submitted an application in alignment with targets in the Immigration Levels Plan.
In January 2026, we launched a new measure for Ukrainians and their family members who applied under this pathway extend their stay in Canada, while they wait for a decision on their permanent residence application.
