COW – Immigration Impacts on Social Infrastructure – May 28, 2026
We are returning immigration to sustainable levels and focussing it to where it has the greatest impact, while reducing pressures on housing, healthcare and other services.
Our efforts are working. We are reducing pressures on communities, including with social services and in the cost of rental housing.
We are giving permanent residence to workers and students who are already living in Canada to limit additional pressures on infrastructure and social services.
We are bringing in workers needed to work in construction, healthcare, and other services.
We are prioritizing economic immigrants with the skills and knowledge to fill gaps in the construction and health care sectors.
Lower immigration levels are easing pressure on housing by slowing population growth. This reduces the need for new housing, which allows supply to catch up and lowers housing shortages.
