OLLO – Francophone Immigrants – November 4, 2024
IRCC response to a Request for Information presented by the Library of Parliament
Question
I would like to obtain a compiled list by IRCC on the number and the percentage of Francophone immigrants established in each province and territory and in Canada, outside of Quebec, for the last five years (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022). This information will serve the Senate committee on Official Languages in their study of Francophone immigration in a minority communities. Is a response between now and January 16 2023 possible?
Response
Please consult annex A for a completed list on the number of admissions to Canada (excluding the province of Quebec as an intended destination) of French-Speaking Permanent Residents by Province of Intended Destination, 2017 – October 2022.

Notes:
Data are preliminary estimates and are subject to change.
Please note that all numbers between 0 and 5 have been replaced with the "--" symbol, to prevent situations where individuals could be identified, when IRCC data is compiled and compared to other publicly available statistics. For the same reason, all other figures have been rounded to the nearest multiple of 5; therefore, the data may not equal the amount shown.
Beginning in 2019, “French-speaking” is defined to include (1) permanent residents having declared a knowledge of “French only” as their official language or (2) permanent residents having declared a knowledge of “French and English” as their official languages while declaring French as the language in which they are most at ease.
Prior to 2019, “French-speaking” was defined to include (1) permanent residents having French as their mother tongue or, (2) permanent residents with a mother tongue other than French or English and “French only” declared as the spoken official language.
All admissions reside outside the province of Quebec, by intended destination.
