Rina Lorello

Rina Lorello currently holds the position of acting Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Assistant Deputy Minister, Digital Strategy, Services and Innovation (DSSI) Sector since June 2021.

Rina has been with IRCC for more than 20 years and has held several executive roles throughout her career. She has vast experience in setting strategic direction and providing leadership in information technology, security, information systems and information management. Her ability to collaborate and build partnerships within and outside the Department has been instrumental in helping the department advance strategic alliances and achieve key business objectives. In particular, she played a crucial role working with Shared Services Canada to improve and stabilize IRCC’s mission-critical case processing systems.

Her expertise in the IM/IT field is also ensuring stewardship of a department that is at the forefront of the Government of Canada’s digital transformation via work on cloud enablement, digital workspace solutions, IT security operations, and application development. Under her leadership, Phase 1 of the Digital Platform Modernization programme was successfully delivered and established a reliable transformation environment and disaster recovery site for GCMS.

She has previously worked as Project Executive, Data Centre Manager and most recently as interim CIO, which have allowed her to understand the importance of championing innovation. Ultimately, her work has helped shape her views on maintaining a positive culture and remaining connected to what you are passionate about.

Ms. Lorello holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours with a concentration in Information Systems from Carleton University. She also completed the Queen’s Executive Program for Execution, Strategy and Leadership.
