ARCHIVED – Notice – Belgrade visa office closes and services transferred to Vienna

May 9, 2012 — Effective immediately, the Visa and Immigration Section at the Canadian Embassy in Serbia (Belgrade) is closed to the public, and temporary resident services have been transferred to the Canadian Embassy in Austria (Vienna).

The visa office in Vienna will now be responsible for processing all applications from Montenegro and Serbia. Vienna is already responsible for processing permanent resident applications from those countries.

The visa office in Vienna will also continue to provide temporary and permanent resident services to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Each year, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) evaluates its network of immigration offices and explores ways of doing business more effectively.

CIC is stepping up the pace of modernization and taking action to more efficiently process applications in order to provide greatest value for taxpayers’ money. It is making changes to the way it operates by reducing overhead costs, streamlining programs and operation, moving processing to where capacity exists and centralizing some of this work to regional offices. The decision to close the Belgrade visa office is tied to that modernization strategy.

Temporary resident services:

Anyone previously serviced by the visa office in Belgrade should now submit their temporary resident application to the visa office in Vienna.

Temporary resident applications that have already been submitted at the visa office in Belgrade will be transferred to Vienna for finalization. Applicants will be informed once a decision has been made on their application.
