Canada resumes biometric collection services in Sudan

Ottawa, July 24, 2025—Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is working with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to resume biometric collection services in Sudan.

Biometric collection was previously paused in Sudan, making it difficult for people who were unable to safely leave Sudan to complete their applications to come to Canada. This partnership will facilitate the application process for some people, by allowing them to submit their biometrics from within Sudan.

Biometric collection will be available by appointment only. IOM will contact people who have applications in progress under the family-based permanent residence pathway or Canada’s resettlement programs to schedule a biometric collection appointment. If needed, IOM may also schedule a medical exam. IOM will try to book biometric collection appointments and medical exams together wherever possible.

Only people who have been contacted by the IOM and have a confirmed appointment will be able to give their biometrics and attend a medical examination.
