IRCC expands digital tools to provide better information to applicants

Ottawa, February 8, 2023—For Canada to attract talent from around the world, we must provide the best possible experience for people who want to come here. That is why Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is reducing wait times and improving access to timely information about applications.

IRCC is expanding online application status trackers to 4 new categories of permanent residence applications. Online status trackers allow clients to monitor their application and stay informed of any actions they need to take to keep their file moving. They increase transparency by providing clients and their representatives with direct access to the same information they would get if they contacted IRCC.

Online application status trackers were first launched in May 2021 for citizenship applications and in February 2022 for immigration applications, starting with spouse, partner and dependent child sponsorship categories. Now, Express Entry applicants and their representatives can use the online application status tracker for Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Provincial Nominee Program applications.

Improving online tools is an important part of the Government of Canada’s work to improve client service. Over the past year, IRCC has made improvements to address key challenges faced by those using the immigration system, and today’s announcement builds on the commitments that the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, made in September 2022 to increase transparency. In the coming months, online application status tracking will be expanded for additional types of applications.

IRCC is committed to building an immigration system that works well for newcomers, visitors, our businesses and all Canadians. We know there is still more work to do, and we appreciate the patience of all clients as we continue our digital transformation.
