Optional work permit
You may be eligible for a bridging open work permit (BOWP) if you:
- applied for permanent residence as a Quebec investor or entrepreneur and passed a completeness check
- live in Quebec
- hold a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ)
- are the principal applicant on your permanent residence application
- either:
- have a valid work permit
- have an expired work permit but maintained your status as a worker
- are eligible to restore your status and get a work permit
You also need to meet the general eligibility requirements for a work permit.
Supporting documents
When you submit your BOWP application, include:
- the supporting documents listed in the document checklist
- a copy of your CSQ
- a copy of the letter that shows your permanent residence application number
- This number begins with the letter “E”
- a notice of intent to select issued by le Ministère d’Immigration, Francisation et Intégration (MIFI)
If you apply online
Upload the letter that shows your permanent residence application number in the “Client information” field.
How to apply
Follow the instructions for extending or changing the conditions on your work permit.
When you apply, make sure you
- respond yes to the question "Have you been told by an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada office that you are approved in principle for permanent residence in Canada?"
- select Open work permit as the type of work permit
- pay the work permit processing fee and the open work permit holder fee
In most cases, you must apply online.
If you’re having problems applying online, you can apply on paper.
