How to apply

Immigration Representatives

As with other immigration programs, representatives may continue to provide guidance and assist their clients as they navigate all aspects of the requirements of this pathway. The only part of the process that representatives can’t do is open a portal account or electronically sign the application for their clients. The dedicated portal is a tool to be used by clients to upload IRCC forms and supporting documents required for the immigration decision. Representatives could certainly help prepare the documents applicants must upload to the portal.

In other words, an immigration consultant or lawyer may assist clients with their application, but they should not log in to the portal using a client’s credentials or sign the application for them.

In all situations where authorized representatives assist clients virtually (through sharing screens) for this initiative, the client, after reading the attestation, needs to be the one who checks the box confirming they have read and understood the attestation, types their name and be the one clicking the “submit” button. These actions combined – by the client - constitute for us the legal requirement for applications to be considered “signed”, as per the legislative and regulatory requirements.

Make sure you’re eligible

Be sure to review the detailed eligibility requirements.

If you don’t meet the requirements of at least one stream or are missing any required documents, your application for permanent residence will be refused. You will not receive a refund of your application fees.

Get ready to apply

Read the Instruction Guide for important information about how to complete the application, fees and how to apply.

Create your account and document checklist

Eligible applicants can submit their applications through IRCC’s online portal which will launch on May 6, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. EDT.

To get your document checklist and submit your application online, you must create an account.

In your account, we will ask you some questions about your application. You will then see a document checklist that tells you all the documents you need to submit. After you fill out the application forms, you will upload them to your account.

Applicants requiring accommodation as a result of a disability may request an alternative format application and are encouraged to contact IRCC early.

For streams with a limited intake, accommodation requests must be received by May 20, 2021, or before the cap has been reached, whichever is later. IRCC will consider the submission of a request for an accommodation, by email or by phone to the Client Support Centre, as an assertion that you require an accommodation due to a disability.

Please include the following information in your email to IRCC.BCSU-UCSE.IRCC@cic.gc.ca:

  • your full name
  • your mailing address
  • your telephone number
  • which stream you’re applying for
  • the type of alternate format you require, such as paper copy, Braille or large print
  • if you wish to receive it by mail or by email
  • confirmation that you are requesting an accommodation due to a disability

You may also contact the Client Support Centre at 1-888-242-2100 for assistance.

Important: As you are applying online:

Get your fingerprints and photo taken

If you’re between 14 and 79 years old, you need to give your fingerprints and photo (biometrics) for every application for permanent residence you submit. This applies even if you gave your biometrics in the past and they’re still valid. We will send you a letter when it is time to go give your biometrics.
