Phase 2 – Processing Syrian refugees overseas
We process refugees for resettlement all the time. The challenging part of this project was the huge number of refugees we had to process and the short time we had to do it. So, how did we process 25,000 refugees in 100 days?
To help manage the work, we set up temporary visa processing centres in:
- Amman, Jordan
- Beirut, Lebanon
- Ankara, Turkey
Meanwhile, hundreds of staff across many departments and security partners were brought in to help.
Every Syrian refugee was thoroughly screened before leaving for Canada. This screening included full immigration medical exams, and criminal and security checks.
