Eligible to travel to Canada

  • Unite with an immediate family member who is a Canadian citizen, person registered under Canada’s Indian Act or permanent resident of Canada
  • Unite with an immediate member who is in Canada temporarily
  • Unite with an extended family who is a Canadian citizen, person registered under Canada’s Indian Act or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Visit on business (meeting, special event, training)
  • Attend an end-of-life ceremony or funeral
  • Be present during the final moments of life of a loved one
  • Provide care to a critically ill person
  • Join a vessel as a marine crew member
  • Assume a posting as a diplomat or to travel as an accompanying immediate family member of a diplomat arriving on posting who will also be accredited in Canada
  • Handle the affairs of a victim of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752

How to apply online with the IRCC Portal

Follow these steps to apply online.

1. Create an account and sign in

If it’s your first time using the IRCC Portal, we’ll ask for your email and give you a code to sign up for an account.

2. Complete the online form and upload your documents

After you answer all the questions, you’ll get a list of documents you need to upload.

This includes the documents that show you’re eligible to travel to Canada right now and that support your study permit application.

3. Pay with a credit card

We accept credit cards and prepaid cards from Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, JCB® and UnionPay®.

If you can’t apply online because of a disability, or if you’re travelling with an identity or travel document that was issued to a refugee, a stateless person or a non-citizen, you can apply on paper.
