You don’t need a work permit if you have certain documents stating you’re coming to Canada as F1 staff to work at the May 2026 Grand Prix event.
Documents for F1 workers
If you have one of the documents listed below, you don’t need a work permit to work in Canada as F1 staff at the Grand Prix event:
- an employment contract
- a Paddock Pass
- a letter of employment
Even if you don’t need a work permit, you may still need to apply for a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization.

Employer-specific work permit
Most common
- You need a job offer.
- Your employer may need a labour market impact assessment (LMIA).
Open work permit
For special circumstances
- You don’t need a job offer.
- You can work for most compliant employers in Canada.
- You’re only eligible in certain situations.
