The following provides a summary of the department’s planned achievements for 2025-26 according to its approved Departmental Results Framework. A Departmental Results Framework consists of a department’s core responsibilities, the results it plans to achieve, and the performance indicators that measure progress toward these results.

      • To provide the people of Canada with independent leadership on contemporary issues in law and meaningful contributions to law reform projects.
      • The people of Canada have access to an open, independent forum about law and its operation throughout Canadian society.

    In order to fulfill its core responsibility, the Law Commission of Canada will focus on achieving its departmental results. It will continue to develop and implement innovative and effective approaches to, and formats for, relevant research, effective consultation, productive partnerships, quality recommendations and efficient operations. In 2025-26, its second complete year since its revival in 2023, the Commission will have as its overarching goal both the implementation of its inaugural research, outreach and engagement projects and the ongoing development and refinement of processes of consultation, design and implementation of the Commission’s projects. The Commission will continue to refine the indices that measure success and, with each project, work to ensure the sustainability of the organization.
