On May 22, the Inspector General of the Australian Defence Force (IGADF), Geoff Earley, met with the Chairperson of the Military Grievances External Review Committee (MGERC), Bruno Hamel, at the Committee’s offices in Ottawa. During the meeting also attended by the Committee’s full-time Vice-Chairperson, Sonia Gaal, and Executive Director, Cynthia Beeman, Mr. Earley and his hosts discussed the similarities and the differences between the Canadian Armed Forces and the Australian Defence Force grievance processes, as well as the important independent role both organizations play in these processes.
We are always happy to have the opportunity to hear about the experiences and lessons learned by organizations similar to ours. We had a very informative discussion on a variety of topics such as organizational structure and institutional independence. From similar goals come similar challenges and we always welcome this type of knowledge exchange, said Bruno Hamel.
The IGADF was accompanied by the Director of Military Justice Performance Review, Colonel Arun Lambert and the Australian Defence Adviser to Canada, Wing Commander Russell Page.
