# 2020-170 Pay and Benefits, Canadian Forces Integrated Relocation Program

Canadian Forces Integrated Relocation Program (CFIRP)

Case summary

F&R Date: 2020-11-25

Upon posting to Alberta from an Outside Canada location, the grievor requested authority to relocate his Dependants, Household Goods and Effects (D(HG&E)) to New Brunswick instead of Alberta, as he and his spouse were separating at the time. His request was denied and he submitted a grievance. The Committee found that the Canadian Forces Integrated Relocation Program Directive contained no provisions that would allow for reimbursement of the costs to move the grievor's HG&E to any location other than to his new place of duty in Alberta.

FA decision summary

The Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, acting as Final Authority (FA), agreed with the Committee's findings that the grievor was entitled to the cost of travel back to Canada for his dependants but not the cost of relocating his HG&E to a location in Canada other than his posting destination. The FA adopted the Committee's recommendation to confirm reimbursement of the dependant travel expenses.
