The statistics below provide an overview of the Committee’s Findings and Recommendations (F&R) as well as the Final Authority (FA) responses to those F&Rs over the last five years.

Committee's Findings and Recommendations

Between 2020 and 2024, the Committee issued F&Rs on 997 grievances of which 47.1% (470 cases) found that the grievor had been aggrieved by a decision, act or omission in the administration of the affairs of the CAF. In the remaining 52.9% (527 cases), the Committee recommended that the grievance be denied.

In the 47.1% (470 cases) where the grievor had been aggrieved, the Committee recommended to grant full or partial remedy in 94.5% (444 cases); in 0.2% (1 case) , the Committee recommended that a remedy be obtained outside of the grievance process, rather than be granted by the FA; in 5.3% (25 cases) a remedy could no longer be recommended (i.e., the grievor was no longer a CAF member or the issue of the grievance was moot).

The following graphic sets out the distribution in percentage of the Committee's Findings by year.

Final Authority decisions

Of the 997 F&R issued by the Committee, the FA rendered 557 decisions. Of these, 222 decisions addressed cases where the Committee found that the grievor had been aggrieved by a decision, act or omission in the administration of the affairs of the CAF. The remaining 335 decisions addressed cases where the Committee had found that the grievor had not been aggrieved and recommended that redress be denied.

The following illustrates the distribution of the FA decisions in percentage on each of these two categories.

Figure 2: FA Decisions issued between 2020 and 2024 (557 cases) as of March 31, 2024
Committee F&Rs Cases where the Committee found that the grievor had been aggrieved Cases where the Committee found that the grievor had not been aggrieved
FA agrees and partially agrees with Committee’s F&R 94% (208) 87% (292)
