The statistics below provide an overview of the Committee’s Findings and Recommendations (F&R) as well as the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) responses to those F&Rs over the last five years.

  • Note: Data is updated on a quarterly basis.

Committee's Findings and Recommendations

Between 2012 and 2016, the Committee issued F&Rs on 1028 grievances of which 53.2% (547 cases) found that the grievor had been aggrieved by a decision, act or omission in the administration of the affairs of the CAF. In the remaining 45.6% (469 cases), the Committee recommended that the grievance be denied.

Starting in 2014 the committee made changes to the way it captures its statistics where it had determined that a CAF member has been aggrieved. In the 53.4% (400 cases) where the grievor had been aggrieved, the Committee had recommended to grant full or partial remedy in 94.3% (377 cases); in 4.0% (16 cases) , the Committee recommended that a remedy be obtained outside of the grievance process, rather than be granted by the CDS; in 1.8% (7 cases) a remedy could no longer be recommended (i.e., the grievor was no longer a CAF member or the issue of the grievance was moot).

The following graphic sets out the distribution in percentage of the Committee's Findings by year.

Chief of the Defence Staff Decisions

Of the 1028 F&R issued by the Committee, the CDS rendered 761 decisions. Of these, 391 decisions addressed cases where the Committee found that the grievor had been aggrieved by a decision, act or omission in the administration of the affairs of the CAF. The remaining 370 decisions addressed cases where the Committee had found that the grievor had not been aggrieved and recommended that redress be denied.

The following graphic illustrates the distribution of the CDS decisions in percentage on each of these two categories.
