Working for Seniors

Fifty years ago, 1 in every 13 Canadians was a senior. Today, it's closer to 1 in 7. In two decades that number is expected to grow to 1 in 4.

Recognizing the new opportunities and issues arising from a rapidly growing and increasingly diverse aging population, in March 2007 the Government of Canada created the National Seniors Council (NSC).

Since its inception, the NSC has been working hard, meeting with representatives of seniors' groups across the country. The council plays an important role, listening to Canadians and communicating their views to the Government of Canada. In addition to identifying opportunities, the NSC helps the federal government better understand the barriers and challenges seniors face.

By serving as a valuable interface between seniors and the federal government, the NSC acts as a voice for older citizens and helps inform Canadian policy.

Who We Are

National Seniors Council members include seniors, representatives of organizations that serve seniors and/or experts on seniors and aging.

Council members bring with them unique perspectives and experiences that help the federal government understand the issues facing seniors today.

What We Do

The National Seniors Council ensures that seniors' issues are heard by your Government. The Council works closely with seniors and seniors' groups to ensure that the Government of Canada meets the needs of Canada's evolving seniors population and delivers results.
