Specialized units
Specialized units are a key component of the Royal Canadian Navy's (RCN) maritime security framework, providing enhanced expertise in maritime interdiction operations, boarding operations and force protection.
Units
Naval Tactical Operations Group
The Naval Tactical Operations Group specializes in advanced boarding operations at sea. This includes intercepting suspect vessels in order to prevent the movement of illicit cargo or military equipment. Additional duties include force protection which entails protecting Navy ships, infrastructure and personnel all over the world.
Naval Boarding Party
Naval Boarding Parties are used to conduct cooperative boarding operations investigating lower-threat vessels of interest, and work with deployed Naval Tactical Operation Group teams while on operation.
Naval Security Team
The Naval Security Team provides an extra layer of land and sea-based security, called enhanced force protection, to deployed RCN assets. These teams are self-sustaining and can operate in both established, and rudimentary sea ports anywhere in the world.
Clearance Divers
Clearance Divers are highly trained diving and explosive ordnance disposal specialists supporting RCN missions. Clearance divers are deployable worldwide with routine participation in exercises and operations throughout Canada, including the high Arctic, as well as the Indo Pacific, Europe, and the Americas.
