The Minister’s Advisory Panel was created in December 2020 with a clear mandate to seek out the policies, processes and practices that enable systemic racism and discrimination in the Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and to provide advice on how to eliminate them from our institution.
On November 5, 2020, the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, appointed the Honourable Morris J. Fish, former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, as the Independent Review Authority, to conduct an independent review of specified provisions of the National Defence Act (NDA) and their operation.
On April 29, 2021, the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, announced the launch of an independent external comprehensive review of current policies, procedures, programs, practices, and culture within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the Department of National Defence (DND).

Built in 1915, the Amherst armoury is located in Amherst, N.S., and was used by the Nova Scotia Highlanders until 2015. The army reserve unit now operates and trains out of the Pictou, Truro, and Springhill armouries, which better meet their operational needs.
